"Device not compatible" error message in Google Play Store

We've heard some users report that they're getting a "Device not compatible" error message in the Google Play Store when they try to install or upgrade GetUpside, even though their device is supposed to be compatible with GetUpside.

As we've investigated this app compatibility issue we found that several other major apps have run into this including Instagram (1B+ installs) and Clash of Clans (100M+ installs). It appears to be an issue with Google's Android operating system.

To fix the “your device is not compatible with this version” error message, try clearing the Google Play Store cache, and then data. Next, restart the Google Play Store and try installing the app again.

Pull down the notification bar on your Android device and hit the gear-shaped settings icon, or find “settings” in the application tray. From here navigate to Apps, or App Manager. Then scroll down and find Google Play Store. Select this, and tap Clear Cache or Data as shown below.

This should erase everything, and get rid of any corrupt files that seem to be causing this problem. Instagram and Supercell, maker of Clash of Clans, have heard from multiple users that this works.

just wanted to say thanks...but in your description, make sure to tell people that they must delete cache AND data files...I did just cached files and it didn't work, had to complete the process with deleting both

Clearing the Google Play cache and data did not work for me. However, I solved the “device is not compatible with this version” problem by running a software update on my device to install the most recent version of android from my carrier. The update was almost 1 gigabyte and took a while to install, but all my problem apps are now good to go.
